The Fullness of Life | Jay Fesperman (1/3)

Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they might have LIFE and have it to the FULL.” (John 10: 10). One of the most deceptive things the thief, the devil, is bringing forth in the world today is the idea that DEATH is the solution to many social problems. The highest court in the land, by its 1973 decision, opened the floodgates to abortion, and millions of children have been murdered. Many of these deaths, it is said, are “for the convenience of society”; either the family, the community, or the nation. Now, serious consideration is being given to PLANNED LIFE-TERMINATION for the elderly, the poor, and the maimed. . .Wars and terrorism all over the world continue unabated – indeed, are on the increase. In many of these instances, people in certain religions are told that dying in a “holy war” will assure their eternal destiny. Elsewhere, life is cheap and expendable; the state owns its people. . .and so forth!

HUMAN LIFE itself is at stake! The children of this age are losing, or have already lost, the real sense of the true value that God puts on HUMAN LIFE. Present-day life patterns are almost all based on the concept of SELF-FULFILLMENT, but the very essence of life that flows throughout humanity, life that was made “in the image of God”, its very essence and the basic function of this HUMAN LIFE is to FULFILL OTHERS.

There is inherent in all animal life-forms the natural drive for self-preservation. Therefore, a sufficient supply of natural law is provided. We are inwardly driven to eat and drink by the appetites of our own body. We run away or fight in defense against the natural enemy which would consume us. . .fear of death moves us instinctively to protect ourselves in obedience to natural law.

But when God “made man in His own image”, a LIFE-FORCE was placed in the physical universe that never before existed nor elsewhere exists today in this realm. God didn’t repeal the natural laws. We still must obey them to the hilt! But another LIFE-FORM was added when “He breathed into man the breath of LIFE and man became a LIVING SPIRIT.”

From Jay Fesperman’s “Letters of Exhortation”, Number 8, February 1981.
