The Singleness of Two | Jay Fesperman (part 2/3)

Now from Ephesians, let’s see how UNITY is “A TOTALITY OF RELATED PARTS”. In [Ephesians] 4:3 Paul says, “Make every effort [try hard!] to keep the UNITY of the SPIRIT through the Bond of Peace!” (emphasis mine).

I see the “Bond of Peace” as an agreement, a commitment of the Body’s members to one another to maintain calmness and HARMONY, no matter how each one of us may see things from a different perspective. The hand does not sense things in the same way as does the ear, or the eye, the nose, or the taste buds – and it is not meant to! Thank God He gave us all five senses, so that balance [agreements] comes to the human body. And to the Body of Christ He gave the five-fold ministry of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers “to prepare God’s people for WORKS OF SERVICE, so that the Body of Christ may be BUILT UP, UNTIL we ALL reach UNITY – a TOTALITY OF RELATED PARTS – and become COMPLETE, MATURE, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” (Eph. 4:13. Additions mine).

Many of us have a “yes, but” response to what is being said by various members of our Fellowships. This will not add to the unity of the Body; rather, it will usually bring quarrels. I have found it tremendously helpful to ADD TO my own knowledge of a particular matter the input of others – often one of the most unlikely members among us.

Incidentally, both parents and young people need to see that MATURITY means COMPLETENESS. To be in “full stature” means that you have “grown up” “in ALL things” – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, AND RELATIONALLY!
