Remembering our Roots on This 4th of July!

Charles Finney (1792-1875)

We desperately need a Charles Finney in our country today. In these turbulent times in our nation, Christians must stand and cling to their God given, pre-ordained place in the affairs of our America. Finney states it best:

The Church must take right ground in regards to politics….The time has come for Christians to vote for honest men, and take consistent ground in politics or the Lord will curse them…

God cannot sustain this free and blessed country, which we love and pray for, unless the Church will take right ground.

Politics are a part of a religion in such a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to their country as a part of their duty to God… God will bless or curse this nation according to the course Christians take in politics.

Charles Finney understood the roots our America were founded upon. It was a spiritual happening when the Pilgrims landed on our shores; it was a spiritual happening when we broke away from an old world system that gagged our mouths from speaking the word “Liberty;” it was a spiritual happening when our Constitution was signed; it was and is a spiritual happening that is facing us today as we watch, day by day, our spiritual roots being jerked out from under us. Jesus and politics were intermingled in our beginnings.

The spiritual must over-flow into the political if we are to survive. There is a season for every matter under heaven; a time for silence and a time to speak. (Ecclesiastes 3:7).

Speak out, Christians! Wail! Refuse the chains that once held us captive! For crying out loud…! Can we remain silent any longer and hold our heads high?

I don’t think so.

What do you think?
